In the mid 1940's, Juel Market and Milt Johnson worked for Walker Brothers Construction constructing homes predominately in the Eau Claire area. In 1948, they decided to form their own company to construct homes. In 1952, the first commercial project that Market & Johnson constructed was the high school in Altoona, Wisconsin. By 1956, the transition had taken place. The company evolved from home building to commercial construction. |

| In 1964, Milt Johnson decided to sell his portion of the firm to Juel Market and start his own business in Montana with his two sons. In the same year, Marv Market joined the firm upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Marv's brother, Dan, joined him in 1970. Market & Johnson operated as a family business until early 2000 when Dan Market offered ownership opportunities to four key employees; Steve Breitenfeldt, Don Carlson, Ron Dulitz, and Gary Carlson. Since then Jerry Shea and Matt Faulkner have joined the ownership team and Ron Dulitz and Gary Carlson have retired. Today, the owners of Market & Johnson continue this same approach. The ownership team, led by Dan Market, is actively involved with every aspect of the firm and ensuring that the values that the company were founded on are still the foundation of our company. |
Community Involvement |
| Market & Johnson is very committed to the communities that support our firm. Our employees are actively involved with many community groups throughout Western Wisconsin. Hundreds of hours annually are spent with groups such as the United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, area Rotary Clubs, Chambers of Commerce, University Foundations, as well as many others.
The importance of supporting the community is evident by the level of involvement that our firm participates at. In addition to volunteering, Market & Johnson also supports our community groups financially. On average, our firm donates approximately 2% of our net income to our community.
Our firm is also very active within our industry organizations. Market & Johnson has been an active member of the Association of General Contractors, of Wisconsin (AGC of Wisc.) as well as other construction related groups. Taking a leadership role in the direction that our industry evolves to is not only important to Market & Johnson, but also to the clients that we serve. |
