In the mid 1940's, Juel Market and Milt Johnson worked for Walker Brothers Construction constructing homes predominately in the Eau Claire area. In 1948, they decided to form their own company to construct homes. In 1952, the first commercial project that Market & Johnson constructed was the high school in Altoona, Wisconsin. By 1956, the transition had taken place. The company evolved from home building to commercial construction.

    In 1964, Milt Johnson decided to sell his portion of the firm to Juel Market and start his own business in Montana with his two sons. In the same year, Marv Market joined the firm upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Marv's brother, Dan, joined him in 1970. Market & Johnson operated as a family business until early 2000 when Dan Market offered ownership opportunities to four key employees; Steve Breitenfeldt, Don Carlson, Ron Dulitz, and Gary Carlson. Since then Jerry Shea and Matt Faulkner have joined the ownership team and Ron Dulitz and Gary Carlson have retired. This new ownership team has maintained our small town family atmosphere and has added many years worth of experiences to it.

    The original principles of the company were quite simple. They were to complete the job in a timely fashion, maintain the highest quality that can be achieved and do the project right the first time. These principles have remained with the company throughout it's existence, and continue to be the guiding principles for the firm.

    The firm has experienced a steady rate of growth throughout the years, initially having annual sales of about $200,000. By 1990, the sales grew to $19 million, and today we are western Wisconsin's largest contractor with revenue exceeding $85 million.

    In 1995, an office was established in La Crosse, Wisconsin. An existing company was purchased. The sales volume and number of customers has grown substantially. A large commitment has been made to enlarge the area served by Market & Johnson, Inc. and still maintain the reputation earned throughout many years of construction.

   Today, Market & Johnson, Inc. is a premier general contractor/construction manager in western Wisconsin. Not only is Market & Johnson the largest contractor in the area, but it is also known as the highest quality contractor in western Wisconsin. Market & Johnson also has a solid reputation for getting their projects done on time and within the project budget, which goes right back to the original principles that the company was founded on.
